Service Manager – Heavy Equipment & Fleet Maintenance

We are seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead the maintenance operations of a large construction, transportation, and winter maintenance fleet.

The fleet consists primarily of newer-model equipment and supports both construction operations and winter maintenance services throughout Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and support licensed technicians, apprentices, and shop personnel
- Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment
- Conduct performance management, coaching, and employee development
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and retention of maintenance personnel
Shop Operations
- Oversee day-to-day maintenance department operations
- Assign and prioritize work orders
- Monitor technician productivity and shop efficiency
- Ensure repairs are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule
- Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and fleet inspections
- Manage equipment downtime and repair scheduling
Technical Support
- Provide guidance on complex diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Support technicians with difficult repairs and technical challenges
- Ensure proper repair procedures and maintenance standards are followed
- Maintain fleet reliability and operational readiness
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage maintenance records and documentation
- Track repair costs, labor hours, and equipment performance
- Develop and manage departmental budgets
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers
- Source parts and external services as required
- Support regulatory compliance and safety initiatives
Qualifications
Required
- Licensed 310T Truck & Coach Technician
- Previous maintenance leadership experience
- Strong understanding of fleet maintenance operations
- Experience managing technicians and shop personnel
- Valid G Driver's License
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
Preferred
- 5–10+ years of maintenance leadership experience
- Construction equipment experience
- Heavy equipment maintenance background
- Snow and ice operations experience
- Experience managing mixed fleets of on-road and off-road equipment
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of:
- Diesel Engine Systems
- Hydraulic Systems
- Electrical Diagnostics

- Preventative Maintenance Planning
