CNC Machining Technician

Position Overview

The CNC Machining Technician is responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual machining equipment to produce custom metal parts and assemblies. This role requires strong blueprint reading skills, precision measurement capability, and hands-on mechanical aptitude to ensure parts meet required tolerances and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate equipment including:
• Vertical CNC milling machines
• CNC lathes
• Manual machining equipment
• Produce nonstandard metal parts and components to specification
• Determine and prepare jigs, fixtures, and special attachments as needed
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
• Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify in-process and final tolerances
• Position and secure workpieces using appropriate holding devices
• Fit and assemble parts using hand tools such as files, scrapers, and wrenches
• Operate machines to test performance and diagnose malfunctions
• Inspect repaired or machined components using inspection equipment
• Perform additional related duties as assigned

Required Skills

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions
• Proficiency with precision inspection tools
• Competency operating CNC milling machines
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail

Preferred Skills

• Experience with water jet cutting equipment

Required Experience

• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum of 4 years of related mechanical or manufacturing technician experience
• Experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines
• Knowledge of sheet metal cutting and forming equipment
• Proficiency with common hand tools (drills, calipers, files, etc.)

Preferred Experience

• Water jet operation and familiarity

Education & Experience Equivalency

• High School Diploma: 8+ years of relevant experience
• Associate Degree (AA): 4+ years of relevant experience
• Bachelor’s Degree (BS): 2+ years of relevant experience
• Master’s Degree (MS): 0+ years of relevant experience
