Machine Tool Electrician

Position Summary
Comau is seeking a skilled Machine Tool Electrician to support the build, installation, and troubleshooting of industrial automation and machine tool systems at our Novi, MI facility and customer sites. The Machine Tool Electrician will be responsible for electrical assembly, wiring, and integration of automation equipment while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical wiring, panel building, and integration of automation systems, robotic cells, and machine tools.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to execute accurate builds.
- Install, connect, and test electrical components such as motors, sensors, switches, relays, and PLC hardware.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems during machine build, debug, and installation phases.
- Verify proper operation of wiring and circuits using meters, testers, and diagnostic equipment.
- Work collaboratively with mechanical builders, engineers, and project managers to ensure on-time, high-quality builds.
- Maintain compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and customer specifications.
- Travel to customer sites as required for installation, commissioning, and support.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in electrical technology, industrial controls, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience as an industrial electrician, machine tool electrician, or similar role in automation or manufacturing.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, PLC wiring, sensors, and controls.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment effectively and safely.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues in complex automation systems.
- Willingness to travel for customer site support and installations (domestic and international).
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience in automotive automation or robotics environments.
- Familiarity with NFPA 79, NEC, and other relevant electrical codes.
- Basic knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics in automated systems.
- Understanding of industrial safety practices, including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
