Job Title: Data Engineer

Location: Columbus, OH (Onsite Preferred)

Contract: 6-Month Contract with Potential for Extension

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 1st Shift

Compensation: $85 – $110 per hour (Optional Benefits Available)

Position Overview

HRU Technical Resources is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to design and implement scalable data solutions that support advanced AI and analytics initiatives. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Azure DataBricks, medallion architecture, and a strong understanding of modern data engineering best practices.

This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge data infrastructure projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to build efficient, reliable, and high-performance data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure DataBricks.
• Implement and optimize the medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers) to support AI/ML use cases.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to define and deliver on data requirements.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance across all architecture layers.
• Automate data ingestion, transformation, and enrichment processes.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data workflows for performance and reliability.
• Document processes and contribute to continuous improvement of data engineering practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience with Azure DataBricks and medallion architecture.
• Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and Apache Spark.
• Experience preparing data for AI/ML models (feature engineering, data normalization, etc.).
• Familiarity with Delta Lake, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Factory.
• Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with MLflow, Unity Catalog, or other MLOps tools.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and data engineering automation.
• Familiarity with real-time data processing and streaming architectures.
