Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create Specifications: Develop specifications and part numbers for the release of new component part numbers for Development.
  • Mechanical/Electrical Engineering: Have a broad-based background in mechanical/electrical hardware engineering.
  • Support and Research: Support corrective action on all components related in BOMs and have the capacity to research and determine different material finishes and platings.
  • Sourcing Activities: Assist Development Engineering in sourcing industrial or military-grade components for military or industrial applications.
  • Supplier Product Change Notices: Manage all Supplier Product Change Notice (PCN) notifications, including identifying new/replacement sources of supply, qualification plans, and AML approvals.
  • RoHS Components Management: Track and manage approved RoHS components to new internal part numbers.
  • BOM Management: Oversee Bills of Material (BOM) from lead to lead-free components.
  • Compliance Research: Perform research and analysis on current global compliance directives, including REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals, and WEEE.
  • GIDEP Representation: Act as the GIDEP Representative for Mercury Systems.
  • Obsolescence Monitoring: Monitor weekly summaries and part listings for obsolescence, End-of-Life (EOL), part changes, errata, and any reliability/quality issues.
  • Design and Development: Create innovative and efficient mechanical designs for defense and aerospace systems using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems into larger defense and aerospace platforms.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports.
  • Manufacturing Support: Provide technical support to manufacturing teams during production, resolve design-related issues, review manufacturing processes, and optimize designs for cost-effective production.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in the defense or aerospace industry. Knowledge of defense and aerospace regulations, standards, and systems is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in engineering analysis tools. Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Analytical Abilities: Ability to conduct thorough analysis, simulations, and evaluations of mechanical systems using appropriate engineering tools and techniques.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Aptitude for identifying and resolving complex mechanical engineering problems, focusing on practical and efficient solutions.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams and articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to design, documentation, and testing processes, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, adapting to changing priorities and project requirements.
