MIG / GMAW Welder (Day Shift)


Type of Position:

Contract to hire role (typically 6 to 8 months to convert to direct hire)


Candidate Requirements:

This role is ONLY open to US Citizens and Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders). Other work authorizations are not permitted (no visa sponsorship / visa transfers permitted).


Job Location:

Aiken, SC


Compensation:

$25.59/hr to start. Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

  • Available (health insurance, dental, vision, 401k, etc) – Benefits begin 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
  • No PTO when on contract (but there would be significant PTO in going direct hire). Unpaid time off is permitted.


Overview:

HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major defense contractor to hire multiple Day Shift Welders for our facility in Aiken, SC. We’re seeking skilled MIG / GMAW welders to work in a rewarding environment that supports the safety of our armed forces. Candidates should possess the ability to read and understand complex drawings and work instructions, as well as produce high-quality welds.


Responsibilities:

  • Loading and unloading parts onto weld tables and fixtures using hand tools, ratchets, or air tools.
  • Checking parts against quality specifications.
  • Troubleshooting problems and recommending or implementing corrective actions.
  • Using hoists, pallet jacks, or forklifts to move parts, materials, containers, and fixtures.
  • Completing paperwork for work orders, labor, time reporting, quality records, and related documentation.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • Training others and working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Performing other duties as necessary and appropriate for the role.


Skills, Experience, Education Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of welding experience in GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) – also known as MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding – of either aluminum or carbon steel.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to successfully pass weld qualifications in both steel and aluminum.
  • Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and the use of weld gauges.
  • Proficiency in shop math, blueprint reading, and dimension calculations.
  • Understanding work orders, machine controls, settings, fixtures, and tool requirements with the ability to make necessary adjustments.
  • Skill in holding and maneuvering a weld torch and operating foot and hand controls.
  • Ability to operate a scissor lift (27-inch step-up, 15-foot working height).
  • Capability to lift 32 pounds and apply 32 pounds of torque to ratchets.
  • Experience operating hoists, pallet jacks, and forklifts (forklift operation requires certification and a 14-inch step-up).


Work Environment:

  • This is a day shift role. Monday to Thursday, 6:30am to 5:00pm.
  • There will be occasional overtime in this role. OT will be paid at 1.5x.
  • Offer may be contingent upon a drug screen (which would include cannabis) and criminal background check.
