Our client is a leading supplier of high-quality building materials, providing exceptional service to contractors and homeowners in the Newark, NJ area. They are dedicated to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment while delivering top-notch products and services to our customers. They are seeking a motivated and reliable Yard Manager to join their team. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience as a supervisor in lumber yards and be skilled in operating a forklift. This position involves handling, organizing, and preparing lumber and building materials for customer orders, as well as maintaining the yard's overall organization and cleanliness.
Responsibilities:
- Load and unload lumber and other building materials from trucks using a forklift.
- Organize and maintain the lumber yard, ensuring materials are stored in a neat and accessible manner.
- Assist customers with loading their vehicles and provide excellent customer service.
- Inspect incoming deliveries for accuracy and quality, and report any discrepancies or damaged materials to the Yard Manager.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any issues to the Yard Manager.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in inventory management by keeping accurate records of stock levels and participating in regular inventory counts.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient yard operations and timely order fulfillment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Yard Manager.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a lumber yard or similar environment preferred.
- Proficiency in operating a forklift; certification is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
