Preventive Maintenance Junior Manager


Portland Bakery

We are seeking a Preventive Maintenance Junior Manager to support asset reliability and maintenance operations at our client’s Portland Bakery. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable production by leading preventive maintenance activities, developing maintenance talent, and driving continuous improvement across assigned production lines.

This is an excellent opportunity for a maintenance leader who enjoys being hands-on, working closely with operations, and building strong teams in a union manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

People & Labor Leadership

  • Lead safety, quality, and line efficiency performance for assigned production lines or areas, including remote support when required
  • Lead and actively participate in the Daily Maintenance Meeting System, driving accountability and follow-through
  • Develop, execute, and track plans within the maintenance & repair cell, including skills development and training
  • Support recruitment of mechanics, including interviews and offer recommendations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for union-related maintenance matters, fostering positive labor relations
  • Build capability by training new Preventive Maintenance (PM) Line Leads
  • Co-lead tooling and workshop management, ensuring full GMP compliance

Asset Reliability & Preventive Maintenance

  • Own and oversee the lubrication program, ensuring proper execution and standards
  • Partner with Reliability Engineering to support Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), Time-Based Maintenance (TBM), and SAP-driven maintenance execution
  • Manage maintenance budgets and support cost-reduction and low-cost improvement initiatives
  • Lead Preventive Maintenance activities within Small Group Activities (SGA) on critical equipment
  • Collaborate with OEMs and subject matter experts (e.g., Bosch, R.A. Jones) to develop standards such as CILs, CLs, and PMs
  • Facilitate the transfer of Progressive Maintenance (PM) activities to Autonomous Maintenance (AM) teams
  • Drive capability development through skill matrices, targeted training, and closing technician/operator skill gaps
  • Lead breakdown analysis and root cause investigations, implementing corrective actions to improve MTBF and reduce MTTR
  • Prioritize and resolve identified abnormalities, including safety and quality issues
  • Support vertical startups and ensure assigned lines are production-ready

Productivity & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with the Core Centric Team to identify losses and execute improvement projects
  • Collaborate with the stockroom to reduce obsolete parts and improve inventory accuracy
  • Research and implement best maintenance practices across multiple production lines
  • Develop and maintain equipment centerlines to ensure consistent performance
  • Leverage Shop-Logix data to identify and recover General Efficiency (GE) losses

Scheduling & Work Management

  • Develop shutdown schedules and scopes of work for PM windows and planned outages
  • Coordinate weekend maintenance coverage based on plant needs and available resources
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign maintenance activities on assigned lines
  • Provide coverage for Team Leads during weekdays and weekends as needed
  • Maintain accurate, organized work orders in SAP, ensuring tasks are assigned and tracked appropriately

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Maintenance Lead in a manufacturing environment (required)
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience leading maintenance teams (preferred)
  • Strong project management and operational leadership experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using a CMMS, such as SAP, and scheduling systems (e.g., Kronos)
  • Strong communication, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (required)

Work Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, alternate shifts, and provide on-call support as needed

  • Base salary range: $110000-120000 (commensurate with experience, skills, education, and budget)
