Software Engineer – Mainframe Developer
Location: Hybrid (Antwerp, Belgium)

Onsite Requirement: Minimum 2 days per week
Overview
We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Software Engineer to join a cross-functional agile team responsible for the maintenance and evolution of critical applications in the insurance domain. The systems support core functions such as policy administration, claims handling, and financial processing. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned mainframe developer to take ownership within a modern agile context while working on legacy systems with high business impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with agile team members to design and implement the best possible solutions in varied business contexts
- Interpret functional requirements and deliver high-quality technical solutions aligned with internal standards

Develop software primarily using COBOL v5 on IBM Z/OS

Work within a CICS and VSAM environment, with batch job processing and job control (JCL)
- Document development work and adhere to best practices
- Participate in testing and quality assurance processes
- Contribute to the team’s agile practices and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide support and bug fixes for the mainframe system
Required Skills & Experience
Must-Have Experience (5+ years):
- COBOL programming on IBM mainframe
- CICS (Customer Information Control System)
- VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method)
- Batch job programming
- JCL (Job Control Language)
- SDSF (System Display and Search Facility)
- RDz (Rational Developer for z Systems)
Note: Candidates lacking experience in any of the above core technologies cannot be considered.
Preferred/Bonus:
- Familiarity with insurance industry workflows and business logic
