Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Vertical Recruitment is working exclusively with a privately owned, multi-disciplinary consulting engineering practice delivering MEP and low-carbon engineering solutions across the UK and internationally. Known for its sustainability-led approach, the business operates across sectors including healthcare, education, residential, commercial, industrial and pharmaceutical.
Following continued success, they’re opening a brand-new Manchester office and are looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Design Engineer as a key part of this exciting expansion. This is a unique opportunity to join at the very start of their North West journey — shaping projects, building client relationships and influencing the office culture from day one.
The Opportunity
This role is ideal for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking to step into a more senior position or take on greater project responsibility and visibility.
You’ll be delivering innovative and sustainable designs on a variety of technically complex projects, while mentoring junior engineers, contributing to team development, and helping to grow the local client base.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver detailed electrical designs, specifications, and reports across a range of building sectors
- Support the delivery of projects from concept through to handover
- Coordinate designs with internal disciplines and external consultants
- Attend client and design team meetings, representing the business professionally
- Support junior team members through mentoring and technical guidance
- Promote sustainable design best practice and keep up to date with relevant standards
- Contribute to the ongoing development and success of the Manchester office
Your Experience & Skills
- Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or HNC/HND with strong experience)
- Working towards Chartered status or ambition to pursue it
- Minimum 3–4 years’ post-qualification experience in electrical building services design
- Proficient in software such as Amtech, Relux/Dialux, Revit, and Microsoft Office
- Good understanding of British Standards, Building Regulations, and ideally HTMs
- Experience with LV systems (HV knowledge advantageous), renewables and embedded generation
- Working knowledge of BREEAM and sustainability-led design
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- A proactive mindset with a desire to contribute to a growing team
