Senior Mechanical Engineer – Manchester
Vertical Recruitment is working with a leading multidisciplinary consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Building Environments team in Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a close-knit, collaborative team working on a varied portfolio of projects across the UK and internationally. You’ll have the chance to contribute to unique, high-profile developments while helping to drive forward sustainable design solutions.
Current projects include:
- A new 5,500-capacity stand is being delivered at a historic football ground, complete with hospitality, media, and player facilities, transforming one of the oldest stadiums in the world.
- At the heart of a major university campus, a world-class library and teaching building is being created, setting a new benchmark for student learning and academic resources.
- The first new build on a landmark city-centre site will provide 500,000ft² of high-quality commercial office space alongside community facilities, forming the cornerstone of a wider regeneration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on the delivery of mechanical building services design, producing calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Utilise Revit and IES software to support high-performance, sustainable building design.
- Ensure projects are completed to an excellent standard, within agreed deadlines and budgets.
- Represent the consultancy at client, design team, and supplier meetings.
- Produce and review reports, presentations, and models to a high level of accuracy.
- Contribute to the implementation of sustainable technologies aligned with net zero carbon goals.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development.
- Collaborate across disciplines, engaging with specialist groups such as sustainability, façades, lighting, and technology.
Your Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in mechanical design within building services.
- Track record of acting as Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects.
- Strong design knowledge, ideally across a variety of sectors and familiarity with British, US, and European codes of practice.
- Skilled in using Revit and IES, with an interest in developing digital engineering skills.
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (BEng, BSc, MEng, MSc).
- Chartered, or working towards Chartership, with CIBSE or equivalent professional body.
