Civil Design Engineer (Roads and Drainage)


Vertical Recruitment is working closely with a successful multidisciplinary consultancy with a global presence. With over 1,000 design awards to their name, they continue to lead the way in high-quality, sustainable infrastructure solutions.


Their Manchester civil engineering team is growing, and they are now seeking a Civil Design Engineer with 3 to 7 years of experience to support the delivery of infrastructure design (roads, drainage, and public realm) for a wide range of building and regeneration projects.


You will be joining a talented, collaborative team working on complex and high-profile developments across the North; from masterplans and new public spaces to sustainable urban infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Produce infrastructure designs from concept through to construction stage
  • Assist in the preparation and review of technical reports and design specifications
  • Work closely with internal teams, external consultants, architects, and clients
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety and CDM regulations
  • Undertake Section 38, 278, and 104 designs
  • Carry out drainage design (including SuDS) and pavement layouts
  • Support more senior engineers with project delivery and coordination
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary design meetings and problem-solving discussions


About You: You’ll have a solid background in civil engineering design within a consultancy environment, particularly in roads and drainage. You’re comfortable using standard industry software and can confidently manage your workload on both small- and large-scale projects.


Skills & Experience:

  • Civil engineering degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience designing drainage and highways/public realm schemes
  • Familiarity with Section 38, 104, and 278 design processes
  • Competent in AutoCAD and MicroDrainage
  • Experience using Civil 3D for road and ground modelling is desirable
  • An understanding of flood risk assessments and mitigation is a plus
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
