Principal / Associate Electrical Engineer – Data Centres


Vertical Recruitment is working with a leading global MEP design consultancy to recruit a Principal / Associate Electrical Engineer with a strong background in Building Services. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of technically complex projects within the growing Data Centre sector, whilst contributing to the wider development and success of the business.


The successful candidate will be based in the Manchester office and will take responsibility for leading projects, managing teams, and driving client relationships, all while ensuring the highest standards of technical quality and delivery.


About the Role


This role offers the chance to join an ambitious consultancy with a diverse portfolio across multiple sectors, where you will lead electrical engineering design within data centres and other critical facilities. You will be instrumental in shaping the direction of projects, managing multi-disciplinary teams, and supporting the strategic growth of the business.


We are looking for a leader who can take overall accountability for project delivery and performance, while providing technical, design, and contract management expertise.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of electrical engineering design across major projects, with a focus on data centres.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and senior engineers, promoting learning and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Take accountability for project performance, including financial management, quality assurance, and client satisfaction.
  • Contribute to business development through client relationship management, contract negotiation, and project procurement.
  • Implement longer-term plans for team growth and office development.
  • Drive technical excellence, ensuring all designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and procedures.
  • Support recruitment, training, and performance management to maintain a high-performing and motivated team.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent, with membership of a relevant professional body (IET, CIBSE or similar).
  • Proven track record in leading teams on large-scale, technical projects within building services.
  • Data centre experience is highly desirable; however, strong candidates from other sectors with relevant expertise will also be considered.
  • Recognised as a trusted and capable leader, able to motivate teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services engineering and interdisciplinary design.
  • Experience in managing financial performance and commercial aspects of projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
